Q. I want to attend one of your courses. How can I register?

A. Please write an e-mail to . In case there are spots available the application form will be sent to you.

Q. Who can register?

A. Applicants should be postdoctoral scientists, PhD students or masters students actively engaged in or soon to commence research involving our technology.

Q. When is the registration deadline?

A. External participants: 20 working days before the course starts
    Internal participants: two weeks before the course starts

Q. How many ECTS will I obtain?

A. 2 ECTS for attending the whole course (practical and data analysis part)
1 ECTS for attending the data analysis part
There will be a presence sheet you will have to sign every day of the course.

Q. Can I register for the data analysis course and catch up the practical part later in time?

A. No, this is not possible. You will have to register for the whole course.

Q. What are the course hours?

A. 08.30/09.00 – 17.00/17.30

Q. When and how will I receive further details (schedule etc.) after registration?

A. You will receive an e-mail two weeks before the course starts.

Q. In which language(s) will the course be taught?

A. All courses are taught in English.

Q. What are the course fees?

A. Please see the specifc page for the course of your interest. The price is indicated there.  

Q. Are there any other expenses I need to cover?

A. Please be aware that travel expenses, accommodation and meals are not included in the tuition fee. These will have to be covered by the participant entirely. Also flight and hotel cancellations due to COVID (or similar) will not be taken over by the FGCZ.

Q. What is the cancellation policy?

A. Please note that due to the high demand for this course any change related to your participation should be informed as soon as possible, but not later than 20 working days prior to the course start date. The notice must be e-mailed to .

Q. How will I receive the invoice?

A. Internal participants:
ETH/UZH:
valid cost center or PSP-Element has to be filled in (application form)
Internal booking will be sent via system
USZ/PSI:
a) valid cost center or PSP-Element has to be filled (the application form)
b) External invoice will be sent, if you do not provide a valid cost center or PSP-Element
External participants:
External participants are kindly requested to double check with their accounting departments before registering for a course. You will receive the invoice via e-mail.
In order to issue an invoice we need the following information:
-Correct and complete invoicing address (fill in application form)
-E-mail address where the invoice has to be sent to (fill in application form)
-Invoice will be issued in CHF only
-PO number or other references i.e. VAT number that need to be stated on the invoice have to be communicated when registering
-Invoice is valid without signature (and we will not re-send signed invoices)
-If invoice is needed immediately, it has to be communicated when registering
-Invoices can only be issued in the same year when the course takes place
-If you cancel your registration later than 20 working days prior the course, the money will not be refunded

Q. Can I receive an invoice in EUR or USD?

A. We can issue invoices in CHF only

Q. What are the payment details?

A. The payment details can be found on the invoice. You have the option to pay by credit card
(instructions on the invoice).

Q. Will you refund the participation fee in case I do not attend?

A. If you cancel too late, we cannot refund the participation fee (see cancellation policy).

Q. What are the PC requirements?

A. As technology continues to evolve and advance, it is important to have access to up-to-date hardware and software that can handle the demands of modern learning environments. Therefore it's suggested that your PC is no older than 5 years.

Q. What type of software will be used for the data analysis part?

A. We suggest to use a recent version of your favorite web browser. We are regularly testing and using our tools with Firefox and Chrome.

For transcriptomics and genomics courses please install the Integrative Genomics Viewer from https://software.broadinstitute.org/software/igv/download Please choose the Java included version which fits to your OS.

For the metagenomics course, for those who have a windows PC, please download the following SSH and SFTP client: https://www.putty.org/

Q. Does the Transcriptomics Course include single cell?

A. Yes.

Q. Can I attend the data analysis part only?

A. Yes, you can. You will receive the respective application form.

Q. I want to attend a course but the “whole” course is fully booked. Can I first attend the data analysis part and then the practical part?

A. No, this is not possible.
