Prof. Bernd Bodenmiller, from both University and ETH Zurich, was granted the competitive R'Equip project "external pageCellular-resolution high-performance mass spectrometric imaging of biological samples" submitted in collaboration with the Functional Genomics Center Zurich. Within the project, which funded a timsTOF fleX MALDI-2 LC-MS system from Bruker, we will implement robust, sensitive, and novel workflows for single-cell resolution spatial mapping of proteins, peptides, glycans, lipids and metabolites in biological systems. The resulting maps will be straightforward to integrate with microscopy or histology data and will generate tremendous impact across many types of life-science research projects. Spatial multi-omics analysis of tissues for basic and translational research, and for clinical applications is developing rapidly.
